Designing an engaging launch experience across digital platforms

Each year, English Heritage commissions a different artist to illustrate their Members’ Handbook: a guide for thousands of members across the country. To support the launch of the latest edition, I designed and built a playful microsite and created animated sequences to enhance a video interview with the featured artist, Ed Kluz. The microsite took the form of an interactive quiz, inviting members to discover their ‘dream historic home’ through a series of personality-based questions. I translated sections of Ed Kluz’s stylised map into visual touchpoints for each answer, using colours and imagery from the original illustration while keeping the design clean, cohesive and accessible. Built in a no-code platform, the responsive site was an engaging tool that allowed members to interact with the campaign in a personal way.

Enhancing storytelling with motion and visual continuity

To elevate the artist interview video, I worked alongside a videographer to create a series of bespoke animated sequences. Using brush stroke animations and a colour palette drawn from the handbook artwork, I introduced a sense of movement and energy that complemented the tone of the conversation without distracting from it. These animations served both as a visual link to the wider campaign and as practical devices — introducing and dividing sections within the video. The result was a joined-up launch experience across print, video and web that brought the artwork to life and deepened members’ connection to the brand.
